Bookings now welcome for the Expert Witness Institute Annual Conference.

The EWI annual conference will welcome over 150 expert witnesses, solicitors, barristers and eminent judges with a programme filled with informative legal updates, vibrant debate and case law analysis. This is our 19th conference and the day is an opportunity to network with fellow experts and the legal community to strengthen your role in the legal sphere and increase your earning potential.

The day is due to include:

Delegates will be welcomed by Conference Chair Mrs Amanda Stevens. The conference opens with the keynote address from The Rt Hon Lord Justice Jackson who will speak on the ‘Upside Down and Inside Out – Legal Costs Under Pressure‘. The morning includes an address from EWI’s new chairman, Martin Spencer QC. A recent announcement by the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary appoints Martin Spencer QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 2 October 2017. He will join the Queen’s Bench Division.

There will also two panel discussions. The first by Jo Millington, Denise Syndercombe-Court and Mark Stokes on the New Forensic Science Regulator where the panel will discuss the impact of the new forensic science regulations and the effects this will have on CCTV, data capture and mobile phone triage. Following this John O’Dowd and David Fowler will discuss the governments commitment to reforming low value personal injury particularly in relation to Soft Tissue Injury.

The morning is then rounded off with a chance to ask the EWI Governors questions and the chairman, Allen Hirson and Sandy Mackay will be available to field any matters from the floor.

The afternoon includes a series of panel discussions. Panellists include Mike Napier CBE QC LLD (Chair) with Sir Henry Carr, The Hon Mr Justice Foskett and HH Sir Peter Thornton QC LLD discussing ‘The increasing number of pressures and challenges for experts‘. Additionally, Peter Hurst LLB, David Marshall and Andrew Parker will discuss ‘Fixed Costs‘ and finally Chris Easton and Paul Raine will seek to help experts with ‘Getting Paid‘.

We round off the day with a closing address from Mrs Amanda Stevens followed by a drinks reception in the Harvey Goodwin Suite and celebratory dinner held in Bishop Partridge Hall (Church House).
